Exciting news for VR motion peripherals as Virtuix announces the launch date of its Omni One VR treadmill on September 10. This long-awaited system, priced at $2,595 plus shipping, has been in development for over a decade.
The journey of Virtuix and the Omni One has been marked by significant milestones and challenges. Locomotion in VR remains a complex issue, with Virtuix aiming to provide a solution that enhances the immersive experience without causing discomfort or negative effects like nausea.
Over the years, Virtuix has garnered interest and support, raising $40 million through a mix of venture capital and individual investments. The Omni One has also gained widespread attention, serving as the inspiration for a similar system in the film “Ready Player One.”
Unlike traditional mechanical treadmills, the Omni One takes a passive approach. Users wear special footwear and move by sliding in place on a concave saucer, offering a unique and intuitive way to navigate virtual environments.
CEO Jan Goetgeluk expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming launch, citing positive feedback from beta users and the anticipation of transforming the gaming experience for players of all ages. Virtuix has already sold 3,000 units during the preorder period, indicating strong interest in the Omni One system.
