Google has officially unveiled their newest wireless earbuds, the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2. Set to be available in off-white, dark gray, mint, and pink colors starting in September for $229, this marks an increase of almost $30 from the first-gen Pixel Buds Pro.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 boasts several improvements both internally and externally, with many new features already implemented in the first-gen Buds Pro through firmware updates.
One of the major changes is the reduction in size and weight, with a 27% decrease in size and a 24% reduction in weight. The new wind-blocking mesh covers house mics that are now color-matched to the earbuds.
The Buds Pro 2 features a new stabilizer for a more secure fit, utilizing 45 million data points from ear scans to ensure maximum comfort. Additionally, the earbuds now come with four sizes of included ear tips compared to the previous three.
Both the earbuds and the case have been made more durable, with the earbuds earning an IP54 rating for dust protection and the case now rated at IPX4 for water resistance.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 houses a new audio system designed in-house by Google, featuring 11mm dynamic drivers and a new “high-frequency chamber” for improved treble. The inclusion of Google’s Tensor A1 chip enhances noise cancellation capabilities and overall sound quality.
Convenience features like conversation detection, onboard Gemini capability (with compatible Google Pixel phones), and enhanced call quality are also highlighted in the Pixel Buds Pro 2.
Battery life has seen some improvements, with total playtime jumping from 20 to 30 hours when including the case. The fast charging feature provides an extra 1.5 hours of playtime with just a five-minute charge.
Bluetooth 5.4 support with LE Audio and spatial audio mode are some of the connectivity features offered by the Pixel Buds Pro 2.
Overall, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 offer significant improvements in design, comfort, audio quality, and functionality compared to their predecessors.
