Opera has officially launched its redesigned Opera One browser on iOS, following weeks of testing in the beta phase. This new version features a search bar located at the bottom for easy browsing, instant search suggestions, and integration with the Aria AI assistant.
Users can opt for the default bottom-placed search bar or switch to Standard Navigation or Fast Action Button style. Additionally, they can swipe down to reveal the search bar, similar to how Spotlight search works on iOS.
In addition to the traditional autocomplete options, Opera now provides its own autocomplete suggestions in chips below the search box to accelerate the search process.
The browser has undergone subtle design changes, such as hiding the top and bottom bars when scrolling for a full-screen view, and matching the color of the top status bar with the site’s theme.
Opera has replaced its old newsfeed with a new carousel view featuring personalized news, live scores, and product recommendations.
Aria, Opera’s AI-powered assistant, was launched in May 2023 and introduced to the iOS version in August of the same year. With the Opera One release, the assistant now supports voice input and image generation.
According to app analytics firm Sensor Tower, the Opera browser has been downloaded over 50 million times on iOS since 2020. However, its growth has slowed down over the years, with download increases of 58%, 25%, and 4% for 2021, 2022, and 2023, respectively. The EU is Opera’s largest market, and due to regulatory changes requiring iOS to offer a browser choice screen, the browser experienced a 122% increase in downloads in Q2 2024.
