Google has just announced its fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat and is now making changes to the Google Home app. This update will transform how users interact with their compatible devices, according to Android Police.
The refreshed app, part of the Google Home Public Preview version 3.20.1.8, has been redesigned with changes to the thermostat controls and overall user interface. The Nest app and Energy Dashboard icons are now located underneath the main thermostat controls in pill-like shapes, while the settings cog and overflow menu remain at the top of the app.
Users will now find information such as the “time until” desired temperature, modes, humidity, fan controls, and more at the bottom of the app.
Android Police also notes that the update now allows adjustments to the thermostat’s temperature setting from the Favorites menu. Previously, these settings were accessed through a chip within the favorites, requiring tapping to open the full thermostat control panel.
The exact release date of the Google Home app update on the Google Play Store is still being determined. However, with the new Nest Learning Thermostat set to ship on August 20, the app update is expected to be available around that time.
The fourth Nest Learning Thermostat is launching 13 years after the original, with a design described by Google as resembling a piece of art. The latest model has a diameter of 3.9 inches, a thickness of 1.1 inches, and a 2.7-inch LCD screen on the front.
