Google Photos is enhancing its search and sorting features to make it easier to find old photos. As reported by Android Authority, Google is introducing new search filters that allow users to search their photo library for the most recent photos related to a specific keyword or those that closely match it.
The new filters include Most Recent and Best Match. The Most Recent filter organizes photos chronologically, with the latest ones displayed first. The Best Match filter shows photos that best match the search keyword. While Google Photos currently attempts this, the results can be inconsistent.
For example, searching for “flower” in Google Photos currently may not yield relevant results and may show photos without flowers. With the new Best Match filter, only photos containing a flower will be displayed, making it easier to find specific photos.

Google is also working on introducing scrollable albums in search results. While these features are not available yet, they are expected to be included in a future update. The timeline for these updates has not been confirmed.
While Samsung’s Android 15 update is delayed, Google is focusing on Android 14 patches. However, since this is an app update, the rollout is likely to be imminent once an APK teardown is released.
