Google’s next hardware event is scheduled for August 13 at 10 a.m. PT, marking a two-month head start from the usual mid-fall timeframe for the Made by Google event. The event will include the unveiling of the latest flagship, the Pixel 9, ahead of Apple’s iPhone 16 announcement in September.
The reason for the schedule change has not been officially stated, but it could be to avoid the noise surrounding the upcoming presidential election. Google is expected to introduce new generative AI features with the new devices that will set them apart from other Android devices.
In line with previous years, Google has already revealed two new devices – the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Fold, ahead of the event. Additionally, they introduced the Nest Learning Thermostat 4 and Google TV Streamer.
Phones Built for the “Gemini Era”
The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Fold are designed for the “Gemini era,” which was introduced at Google I/O. Google has been focusing on its AI ambitions, distancing its hardware offerings from the developer conference, announcing the budget-focused Pixel 8a shortly before the event.
Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Google’s latest teaser videos highlight the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Fold, showcasing a new design language for both devices. The camera design on the Pixel 9 Pro is prominently featured, while the Pixel 9 Fold offers a unique foldable experience with off-center stacked lenses.
Android 15
The latest beta of Android 14 was recently released, with the final version expected to be unveiled at the August 13 event. Android 15, codenamed “Vanilla Ice Cream,” will bring new features and UI enhancements, including improved multitasking, satellite connectivity, Private Space, and an enhanced Doze mode.
What about Assistant?
Google Assistant’s future remains uncertain, with Gemini potentially taking over Android tasks. While users can currently choose Gemini as their primary assistant, Assistant still plays a significant role in Google’s ecosystem.
The Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2
Google is focusing on wearables with the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2, following the Fitbit acquisition. Both devices are expected to be showcased at the August 13 event.
The Made by Google event starts at 10 a.m. PT on August 13. Stay tuned for more updates.
