Amazon Music announced on Tuesday the introduction of its innovative AI-powered feature called “Topics.” This feature enables users to explore podcast episodes based on specific topics discussed within each episode.
When visiting a podcast episode page, users can now find Topic tags below the episode description. By selecting a tag, users can access a list of related podcast episodes featuring the same topic. This functionality allows users to discover podcasts on niche subjects such as “Coffee” and “Dopamine,” in addition to conventional categories like Comedy and News.
Amazon Music has stated that this new feature utilizes Amazon Web Services (AWS) alongside human input. The AI component analyzes podcast content while the human team members curate relevant tags for each episode page.
The Topics feature is now accessible to all Amazon Music users in the U.S. on iOS and Android devices, with immediate effect. It will initially launch across prominent podcasts on Amazon Music like The Daily, SmartLess, and This American Life, with plans for wider coverage and a more robust list of related podcast episodes in the future.
Another AI-driven feature being introduced by Amazon Music is Maestro, an AI playlist generator that crafts playlists based on user cues. This feature was introduced in beta last April. These new AI features have been developed following Amazon’s acquisition of audio content discovery engine Snackable AI last year, as part of the company’s efforts to enhance its podcasting experience.
