The rumor mill is abuzz once again with speculation about a new CS2 update on the horizon. Valve has been known to release one major update per month throughout 2024, but missed the mark in July, making us overdue for some new content.
A reliable Valve dataminer, aquaismissing, has revealed that a new backup of CS2 has been uploaded to Steam, a sign that a significant update is on the horizon. This is typically done to ensure tournaments can revert to a stable build in case of any major issues.
Valve is keeping its cards close to the chest, as usual, teasing fans with hints about the upcoming update without revealing any concrete details. We can only speculate about what the new CS2 update will bring and when we can expect it.
New CS2 Operation
There’s speculation that a new CS2 Operation may be in the works, with hints found in the game files suggesting a potential theme. Aquaismissing recently hinted at an Operation called “Vampire Bat,” fueling excitement among players.
As we enter the second half of 2024, the timing seems right for a spooky-themed Operation to be released. If this is the case, we can expect the update to arrive sooner rather than later to give players ample time to explore everything it has to offer.
Overwatch
In a previous update, Valve added Overwatch files back to CS2, indicating the return of the community-regulated anti-cheat system. However, players have yet to access Overwatch months after its inclusion, highlighting the need for another update to make it available.
Given the current cheating issues in CS2, we hope that the next major update will finally see the return of Overwatch to help address this ongoing problem.
When will the new CS2 update be released?
While the content of the update seems promising, the timing is still uncertain. With backend updates on SteamDB, it’s likely that the new CS2 update is just around the corner. With IEM Cologne 2024 on the horizon, we can only hope for a big update to enhance the CS2 experience.
