The latest Steam hardware and software survey for July 2024 showed a decline in Windows 11 users, dropping below the 46% mark. According to Valve’s data, Windows 11 now accounts for approximately 45.81% of all Windows users on Steam, a decrease of 0.82% from the previous month.
Meanwhile, Windows 10 saw an increase of 0.74%, reaching a 50.16% share. Despite similar gaming performance on both operating systems, a recent test by Hardware Unboxed suggests that Windows 10 may offer better performance in certain titles due to the core isolation feature.
Microsoft is expected to end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. With Windows 11 gaining momentum, it’s likely to surpass Windows 10 well before that date.
Even though Valve no longer supports Steam on Windows 7 and 8/8.1, the client still functions on these systems, maintaining a minor presence on the platform.
