Koei Tecmo’s Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy & the Liberator of Polar Night has exceeded $50 million in total revenue, as reported by AppMagic.
The game was initially launched in Japan on September 23rd, 2023, followed by a global release on January 25th, 2024. Japan has been the biggest contributor, accounting for $45.9 million or 91% of the game’s total earnings.
Taiwan and the US follow as the second and third largest markets for Atelier Resleriana with contributions of $1.5 million and $1.2 million respectively, making up around 3% each.
Driven by Fan Favorites
Atelier Resleriana’s revenue has seen fluctuations over the past 10 months, with periods of peak earnings linked to the introduction of new gacha characters. The game leverages a 27-year-old franchise, drawing on beloved characters to drive engagement and spending among players.
On its best revenue day, October 10th, Atelier Resleriana saw earnings of $1.1 million, coinciding with the launch of Chapter 4 and a new banner featuring original and fan-favorite characters. While revenue has fluctuated since then, the global launch has not sustained the initial success seen in 2023.
The overall decline in revenue mirrors a trend seen across RPGs as the genre recently dropped to second place in the market for the first time in several years. However, with $50.2 million in earnings so far, Atelier Resleriana’s upcoming anniversary in Japan may signal a resurgence in spending.
