Apple is finally rolling out some of the Apple Intelligence features it announced at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. However, the release is currently limited to developer beta versions of iOS 18.1. If you prefer not to deal with early-stage buggy software, you may want to wait for the public beta release or the stable release later this year.
If you are running the developer beta, you can only access Apple Intelligence features if your language is set to U.S. English and your region is set to U.S., which does not affect your App Store regions or purchases. To start using Apple Intelligence features:
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Navigate to the Apple Intelligence & Siri menu.
3. Tap on the “Join the Apple Intelligence waitlist” option.
Once your waitlist position is approved, you will receive a notification. It may take some time for the system to download all models and data needed to run Apple Intelligence. You can disable the Apple Intelligence feature from the menu at any time.
Apple’s AI suite features operate using a combination of on-device and Apple Private Cloud requests. Apple mentioned that the waitlist is in place to ensure sufficient service capacity.
Presently, Apple Intelligence is only compatible with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPads and Macs that run on M1 chips.
Available features include:
– New Siri animations
– How-to questions with Siri
– Writing tools for text formatting and tone changes
– Mail app summaries and smart replies
– Photo search through natural language queries
– Notification summaries
– Call transcriptions with one-tap recording
– Notes app audio support with transcriptions and summaries
Apple Intelligence currently does not include features such as object removal in photos, emoji, image playground, and ChatGPT interactions. There is no set timeline for when these features will be available for testing.
