The beta version of Date Like Goblins caters to over 250 testers with a simple interface utilizing search filters instead of traditional algorithms and swiping models seen on other dating apps. Users can filter preferences like age, gender, and favorite video games, creating a personalized experience focused on games like Final Fantasy XIV, League of Legends, and more.
The platform isn’t just for dating; it also welcomes users seeking friendships or casual gaming sessions with new players. Users can invite others to gaming sessions through Calendly and Discord, fostering connections through voice chat while exchanging gamer IDs.
While the primary mode of interaction is currently through Discord, there are plans to introduce in-app voice capabilities in the future. Date Like Goblins includes a dashboard for users to manage upcoming games, invites, and tailor their availability for scheduling matches.
Date Like Goblins founder, Lise Keeney, conceived the idea after the loss of her father, aiming to create a low-pressure, low-effort way for people to connect online beyond traditional dating apps. With three different modes to choose from – Normal (Human), Goblin, and Halfling – Date Like Goblins offers users options for engaging with profiles based on preferences. In light of potential safety concerns, Date Like Goblins plans to implement ID verification and NSFW filters in the future. The platform emphasizes community safety with manual profile vetting, automated moderation systems, and empowerment for users to report inappropriate behavior.
Beyond fostering romantic connections, Date Like Goblins intends to introduce features for polyamorous relationships and promote a respectful dating culture.
