Apple has introduced Apple Intelligence with the release of iOS 18.1 developer beta, giving users a first look at some of its AI features. The initial launch of Apple Intelligence at WWDC did not include any features, but now users can start exploring its capabilities.
However, the availability of Apple Intelligence features is limited with iOS 18.1. Users with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad, and Mac with M1 in the U.S. English region can join the waitlist to access these features. Setting both device language and region to U.S. English is required, but it does not change the App Store region.
After setting the region and language, users can join the waitlist under Apple Intelligence & Siri settings to access the features. It may take some time for the device to download related AI models, so not all features will be available immediately upon acceptance from the waitlist.
Usage limitations
New features included in the iOS 18.1 update allow Siri to have new animations and support text prompts through double tapping on the bottom bar. Additionally, users can use writing tools to proofread, rewrite, and modify text in various tones and styles.
The Mail app now features summarization, priority emails, and smart replies powered by Apple Intelligence. A new Focus Mode called “Reduce Interruptions” uses AI to only show essential notifications.
Features
Despite these advancements, certain features like ChatGPT integration and Image Playground are still under development. Apple is working on bug fixes for these features, and users will have to wait to test them as per reports from Bloomberg.
