Generative AI is garnering significant investment, particularly in the gaming sector. Titan AI, a new mobile games studio, recently secured over $500,000 in pre-seed funding led by Berkeley SkyDeck. This marks the company’s entry into the growing landscape of generative AI gaming startups aiming to streamline the creation of 2D and 3D content for games, which can otherwise be costly and time-consuming.
Titan AI utilizes image generators Stable Diffusion and DALL-E to produce 2D graphics and merges them with 3D models using proprietary technology. Additionally, the company is training AI to develop level segments, addressing what co-founder Fabien-Pierre Nicolas describes as a “labor-intensive task.”
Founded by Nicolas and Victor Ceitelis, Titan AI’s primary goal is to create more inclusive gaming experiences for underrepresented groups. As Nicolas explained, the company aims to address a lack of representation in games. This mission is exemplified in their first game, Aztec Spirit Run, featuring a protagonist defending a temple’s treasure against Conquistadores.
The company has also launched prototypes for KPop Dream Run, Reptile Dream Run, and Holy Bible Run: Jesus Miracles.
While current runner games have been enduringly popular, Titan AI’s use of generative AI technology to enhance character customization and game features presents an innovative and potentially lucrative approach. The studio believes that accessibility is vital for underserved audiences; thus, all their games are free to play, with revenue generated from in-app ads and paid features.
Despite the success of runner games, Titan AI is exploring other game templates and possibilities for generative AI in gaming, including the potential for players to design their own in-game avatars. This aligns with the company’s commitment to broader representation and inclusive gaming experiences.
Titan AI’s recent funding round signifies a hopeful and positive trajectory in the gaming industry, as the company focuses on creating games with a meaningful mission, supported by angel investors who share this vision. As generative AI continues to evolve, Titan AI’s innovative use of the technology promises exciting developments in the field of gaming.
