Less than three weeks after the release of Zenless Zone Zero, HoYoverse has already secured approval for its next title, Astaweave Haven, in China.
The game has been approved for both PC and mobile platforms, and is part of the 105 video games approved for release in China this month. According to a report by South China Morning Post, these are the only confirmed details about Astaweave Haven so far.
Rumors online suggest that Astaweave Haven may break away from HoYoverse’s usual gacha and RPG genres, with speculation that it could be a life-simulation or management game.
Many Titles, One Game
Astaweave Haven seems to be the same as HoYoverse’s “XinBuGuDi” project, which was trademarked as “Star Cloth Valley” in China earlier this year. The game was also recently trademarked in Japan under the name “Hoshimi Haven,” which roughly translates to “Looking at the Star Haven.”
While the celestial theme is consistent across different versions of the game, it is unclear how this will be integrated into the gameplay. HoYoverse has already achieved success with astronomical themes in games like Honkai: Star Rail, which surpassed $1 billion in revenue within its first year.
Multiplying Approvals
In addition to HoYoverse, Tencent also received a license approval in China this month for its first-person shooter, Arena: Breakout Infinite, which will launch on PC in the Chinese market.
July marks a turning point from earlier in the year when the number of domestic approvals declined month by month. However, with 2024’s total license approvals at 628 so far, there is hope for a recovery from years of stagnant growth in the industry.
