Meta AI, the AI-powered assistant by Meta available on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the web, has introduced new features. Users now have the ability to communicate in more languages and create stylized selfies. Additionally, Meta AI users can now direct questions to the latest flagship AI model, Llama 3.1 405B, which promises to handle more complex queries compared to its predecessor.
The question remains whether these enhancements will elevate the overall Meta AI experience, which had received lackluster reviews during its initial launch. The early versions of Meta AI struggled with basic tasks like searching for recipes and airfares, often failing to provide accurate results.
The introduction of Llama 3.1 405B could potentially address these issues. Meta claims that this model excels in math and coding questions, making it suitable for tasks like helping with math homework, explaining scientific concepts, and debugging code.
However, there is a limitation. Users must manually switch to Llama 3.1 405B and are restricted to a certain number of queries per week before reverting to a less capable model, Llama 3.1 70B.
The integration of Llama 3.1 405B is currently labeled as a “preview” by Meta.
Generative selfies
In addition to Llama 3.1 405B, Meta AI introduces another generative AI model that powers the new selfie feature.
This model, known as Imagine Yourself, generates images based on a person’s photo and a specific prompt. It is currently in beta and can be accessed in Meta AI by typing “Imagine me” followed by a safe prompt.
While Meta has not disclosed the data used to train Imagine Yourself, the company’s terms of use indicate that public posts and images on its platforms are utilized, which has raised concerns among some users due to the complicated opt-out process.
Joining Imagine Yourself are new editing tools that allow users to modify images with prompts like “Change the cat to a corgi.” A new “Edit with AI” button will be introduced soon to provide additional fine-tuning options for users. Additionally, shortcuts for sharing AI-generated images across Meta apps will be available in the near future.
New languages and Quest support
Meta AI is set to replace the voice commands feature of Meta Quest’s VR headset next month in the U.S. and Canada. This update will allow users to use Meta AI with passthrough enabled to ask questions about their physical surroundings, enhancing the virtual experience.
Meta AI is now accessible in 22 countries, with new countries like Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and Cameroon added to the list. The assistant now supports multiple languages and promises to add more in the future.
