Sunnyside Games today announced Nocturnal 2, a sequel to its side-scrolling action-platformer Nocturnal. The sequel expands the original title into more of a Metroidvania-style world, according to the developers, with the same juggle-based action gameplay. The game is scheduled to launch on PC and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2025.
According to Sunnyside, Nocturnal 2 features hand-drawn graphics and fire-based sword gameplay. Players must use fire to drive back the darkness-based creatures, and keep the flame from dying by refreshing by visiting fire sources.
Gabriel Sonderegger, Sunnyside Games co-founder, said in a statement, “We were pleased with the reception to Nocturnal, but wanted to do more with the series. This time we’re expanding the scope into a full-blown Metroidvania, full of non-linear gameplay, secrets, all new enemies, and an expanded arsenal of fire-based abilities.”
