Sybo’s Craft-a-Character competition is back to celebrate the 12th anniversary of Subway Surfers, the iconic endless runner game that has remained popular and successful for many years.
Subway Surfers taps into the allure of street culture and has integrated augmented reality (AR) elements to blend fantasy and reality, allowing players to superimpose characters in real environments.
Marking a Milestone
While Jake is the face of Subway Surfers, there are numerous other characters, and the Craft-a-Character competition will introduce a brand-new character based on the winning design in the contest.
Fans from around the world can enter the competition, which runs from January 10 to January 29. Designs can be submitted via Instagram, following the “Gaming Geeks” theme, inspired by video games and gaming culture and history.
The winning design will reach up to 150 million pairs of eyes and will be added to Subway Surfers in May, coinciding with the game’s 12th anniversary. “The opportunity for 150 million monthly players to have access to a character you created is pretty extraordinary, and our community loves these contests,” said Sybo’s chief marketing officer, Philip Hickey.
Sybo plans to hold additional Craft-a-Character competitions with new themes in 2024, resulting in many new characters being added to the game throughout the year.
A similar competition took place for Subway Surfers’ 10th anniversary in 2022, which added a character named Fernando as a gamified interpretation of the winning fan. Current fan-made characters include Tankbot, Koral, Bob the Blob, and Spraybot.
Last summer, Sybo partnered with the impact platform Milkywire to support donations to environmental projects.
