Anthropic introduced its new Claude Android app on Tuesday, expanding the accessibility of its AI chatbot to a wider audience. This marks Anthropic’s latest initiative to encourage users to switch over from ChatGPT by offering Claude in more platforms.
The Claude Android app mirrors the functionalities of the iOS version that was launched in May. It provides free access to Anthropic’s top AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and offers enhanced features through Anthropic’s Pro and Team subscriptions. Users can seamlessly synchronize their conversations with Claude across devices and easily upload photos or files for real-time image analysis. Additionally, the app provides real-time language translation, a feature aimed at enticing users to engage with the app.
Enterprise customers can also utilize the app to access their Claude accounts on mobile devices.
Despite Anthropic’s claim that its AI models match those of OpenAI and Google, the startup has faced challenges in gaining consumer interest. The Claude iOS app had a lukewarm reception upon its initial release two months ago, garnering 157,000 global downloads in its first week compared to the ChatGPT iOS app’s 480,000 installs within the first five days of its launch.
