The highly anticipated RLCS 2024 season has been officially confirmed! Following much speculation and teasing from Rocket League Esports, the new season is set to kick off on January 26th with the first open qualifier.
This announcement comes on the heels of a rick rolling teaser that left fans feeling more than a little annoyed, posted on the official X account on January 9th.
New RLCS 2024 Format
According to the official blog post, the upcoming RLCS 2024 season will feature just 2 Majors as well as the World Championship, currently scheduled for September. The change has been implemented to ensure the long-term sustainability of the scene. This announcement follows the news that BLAST will take over the running of the RLCS in 2024.
With a confirmed global prize pool of $4,300,000, it appears that teams will have fewer opportunities to win big, but the individual prize amounts are expected to be larger.
One aspect of the new format that has intrigued many is the number of teams from each region that will be allowed at the Majors. The same format will also apply for the World Championship.
- North America: Top four teams
- Europe: Top four teams
- Middle East & North Africa: Top two teams
- Oceania: Top two teams
- South America: Top two teams
- Asia-Pacific: Top team
- Sub-Saharan Africa: Top team.
This means that the regional competition for RLCS points will be intense, with both the NA and EU regions traditionally dominating Rocket League and therefore being prioritized in terms of teams that can attend major events.
