Apple has recently unveiled the public betas for its upcoming software updates across various devices such as the iPhone, Mac, iPad, and Apple Watch. This allows users to explore iOS 18 and its new features ahead of the official release, excluding Apple Intelligence which will debut in a later beta version. Participants can also provide feedback to Apple on their experience.
Those interested in testing out these software upgrades can sign up for the Apple Beta Software Program through the official website. This program gives users access to early versions of the features, including new customization options for the Home Screen on iOS 18. Users can now arrange app icons and widgets freely on their Home Screen and apply colored tints to them.
Additional features available in the iOS 18 beta include a revamped layout for the Photos app on iPhone and new functionalities in the Messages app. Users can now use Tapbacks with any emoji or sticker of their choice. Moreover, the Wallet app introduces Tap to Cash, enabling users to make in-person payments by touching their devices together in the iOS 18 beta.
Once users have tested the iOS 18 beta, they can revert to a previous OS version by following Apple’s instructions. Reverting back to an older software version is possible on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. However, users will need to remain on the beta version on the Apple Watch until the official release of iOS 18 in the fall.
One intriguing feature in the iOS 18 beta is the ability to respond to Siri with a nod when wearing AirPods Pros (2nd generation). This feature was announced during Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference earlier this year. Additionally, Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI innovation, will be introduced in a future beta release and will initially be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models.
