The EWC Dota 2 tournament has been nothing short of unpredictable. The last few days have treated us to some amazing Dota and some surprising results. Now, we are heading towards the home stretch with 12 teams securing their spots in the Riyadh Masters playoffs. These teams will battle it out for the top EWC prize pool from July 16th – 21st.
Who made it to the Riyadh Masters playoffs?
Group A
Team Falcons, Team Spirit, Gaimin Gladiators, OG, Aurora, and LGD Gaming have all secured their spots in the Riyadh Masters playoffs from Group A.
Group A, also known as the group of death, has been full of surprises. Team Falcons emerged as the group leaders, but not before enduring a four-game losing streak that had them at the bottom of the group for two days.
Team Spirit, known for their strong showings leading up to The International, secured second place. Their performances included a single 2-0 series win and multiple draws, showcasing their resilience.
HEROIC had a promising start in the play-in stage, but they fell short against the top Dota 2 teams and were eliminated with a 5-9 record.
Group B
Tundra Esports, Entity, Team Liquid, WBG.XG, PSG.Quest, and BetBoom Team have advanced from Group B to the Riyadh Masters playoffs.
Group B unfolded as expected, with tight matches as teams adapted to new Dota aspects. Tundra, the TI winners, secured the top spot without much surprise.
The only slight upset came from BetBoom Team, who will need to make a lower bracket run. Despite strong showings at ESL One Birmingham and DreamLeague season 22, where they were runner-ups to Team Falcons, expectations were high for them in the playoffs.
beastcoast had fans rooting for them to challenge Europe’s dominance, but they, along with MOUZ, have been eliminated from the tournament.
