Netmarble, a South Korean game developer, has embraced the development of eco-friendly game technology as highlighted in its Netmarble Sustainability Report 2024.
The report delves into Netmarble’s activities throughout 2023, focusing on water resource management, waste reduction, energy consumption, environmental investments, and more.
Tackling Challenges
To address the environmental, social, and economic impacts of its operations, Netmarble has introduced various strategies, both large and small-scale. These include initiatives such as switching to reusable cups in its in-house café and establishing new environmental management protocols.
The adoption of reusable cups has significantly reduced waste, with a 97% retrieval rate, as opposed to the company’s previous use of 2,000 disposable cups daily.
In the realm of social responsibility, Netmarble prioritized employee welfare in 2023, resulting in reduced average monthly overtime hours and holiday working hours. The company’s maternity support program surpasses legal requirements in South Korea, and it even provides an in-house daycare center for its employees.
Netmarble’s efforts were recognized with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family naming it an “excellent family-friendly company” for the sixth consecutive year in 2023. The company also organized the 14th National e-Festival for Students with Disabilities and received the Korea Mecenat Convention Cultural Contribution Award for promoting cultural values through its games.
The report also highlights Netmarble’s commitment to leveraging AI technology while upholding and safeguarding human dignity.
Strategic Success
A customer satisfaction survey conducted by Netmarble in 2023 revealed that mobile gamers rated their experience higher than PC players, with a 3.6 satisfaction score compared to 2.8. Netmarble aims for a perfect score of 5.
Despite a decline in satisfaction among domestic PC users, the satisfaction levels of both domestic and international mobile gamers increased in 2023. The company now offers consultations in 15 languages to enhance user accessibility and operates a 24/7 customer service line in five languages, catering to users in South Korea and beyond. Netmarble attributes its increased sales in the previous year to building trust with users.
Chair of the ESG Committee at Netmarble, Lee Chan Hee, expressed the company’s commitment to creating a sustainable future through innovation and continuous improvement. He emphasized the importance of stakeholder feedback and support in achieving their ESG goals.
While Netmarble has made significant strides in enhancing user satisfaction and sustainability efforts, the company experienced a decline in revenue in Q1 2024 due to a lack of new releases.
