Samsung unveiled its latest devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 at Unpacked 2024, alongside new Galaxy Watches. In response, Google announced on Wednesday that it will introduce new features across various apps for these devices.
Google is revamping its Gemini for Android app to optimize it for foldable devices, incorporating features like overlay and split screen interfaces. Users can now easily access Gemini by swiping the screen corner or using the voice command “Hey Google” (potentially replacing Google Assistant).
The updated app for Samsung devices will enable users to ask questions related to videos on YouTube. These enhancements will roll out to the new Galaxy foldable devices in the upcoming months.
Earlier this year, Google introduced its “Circle to Search” feature at Samsung’s Galaxy S24 event. This week, Google expanded the functionality by adding support for solving math equations and scanning barcodes and QR Codes. The updated version of “Circle to Search” will be available on more devices later this year.
YouTube introduced its multiview feature for Android devices in May, allowing users to watch up to four streams of YouTube TV simultaneously. This feature is now compatible with the Galaxy Z Fold 6, enabling subscribers to watch a mix of content like sports, news, and weather simultaneously.
At the Google I/O developer conference earlier this year, Google unveiled Wear OS 5 with improvements in performance and battery life. Samsung announced that its upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra will run on Wear OS 5.
