Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has officially proclaimed July 7, 2024 as Esports Day in Chicago, Illinois. The announcement was made by the Office of the Mayor on July 7 during the EsportsNext 2024 conference held in the city.
The proclamation, which was shared on LinkedIn by Esports Trade Association chair John Davidson, recognized the global impact of the esports community in driving growth and investment in the city of Chicago. It also acknowledged the contributions of the Chicago-based Esports Trade Association in supporting the esports industry.
Davidson, who shared the proclamation on social media, expressed his appreciation for the recognition:
“Esports is the future of entertainment, and this proclamation is a significant step towards building a strong and sustainable industry that benefits businesses and participants alike.”

EsportsNext 2024, organized by the Esports Trade Association (ESTA), is a conference taking place from July 7 to July 9. The event highlights Chicago’s growing esports community as a hub of innovation and opportunity, with support from businesses and engaged fans. This year’s conference is sponsored by Coca-Cola and features industry representatives from Riot Games, Activision Blizzard, Epic Games, Intel, and more.
