Intel recently announced the discontinuation of the Core i9-12900KS processor, along with other processors, in two Product Change Notifications (PCN). This move signifies a shift in Intel’s product lineup strategy.
Aside from the special edition Core i9-12900KS, Intel is also discontinuing the remaining CPUs in its 10th-gen lineup, including popular models like the Core i9-10900K. The company is phasing out less prominent models such as the Core i5-10400F and its Pentium and Celeron lineups.
Of particular note is the Core i9-12900KS, which stands out as a “Special Edition” model in Intel’s lineup. This move follows a trend set by previous Special Edition flagship CPUs from Intel. The product discontinuation is set to take effect at the beginning of 2025.

You still have time to purchase a Core i9-12900KS at a discounted price before it is discontinued. The current price of around $330 is significantly lower than its original launch price of $800. Due to its limited availability, the price may increase once it is no longer in production.
Intel plans to provide continued support for customers who own the Core i9-12900KS even after it is discontinued. This move marks the end of Intel’s 14nm era, with the company transitioning to newer technologies and architectures in its latest CPU lineup.
