Android 15, one of the most anticipated updates, may not be available on the newly released Google Pixel 8a. This could be disappointing news for those who recently purchased this budget-friendly handset from Google.
Android Authority reports that the Auracast feature in Android 15, which enables users to share audio with multiple Bluetooth devices simultaneously, will not be supported on the Pixel 8a. This feature makes it easier to share music or videos with friends and family without disturbing others around you.
Android Authority examined firmware that references Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio, the foundation of Auracast. While support for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro was confirmed during Android build compilation, the Pixel 8a was notably missing.
Although it may be possible for support to be added later, sources suggest that Google may only intend for LE Audio broadcast to be available on the leading phones in the Pixel lineup, excluding the Pixel 8a.
Android 15 is expected to be released next month, possibly during the upcoming Made by Google event on August 13. The update includes various new features such as partial screen sharing, a notification cooldown, improved Bluetooth controls, satellite connectivity, enhanced PDF experiences, and more.
The Pixel 8a was launched in May with a starting price of $499, making it $200 cheaper than the Pixel 8 and $500 less than the Pixel 8 Pro.
Next month’s Google event may also introduce the Pixel 9 series, featuring the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and the all-new Pixel 9 XL. The Pixel Fold 2 and additional Google AI features are expected to be unveiled as well.
