Amazon has integrated its Amazon Clinic telehealth service into its primary care business One Medical, as announced on Thursday.
To enhance the primary care experience for customers, the service has been rebranded as Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit, offering more affordable pricing options. Customers can now pay $49 for a video call visit or $29 for a text message consultation with a doctor.
Amazon’s commitment to its healthcare strategy remains strong amidst the emergence of health tech startups, particularly in the virtual care sector. This move could impact similar startups like Carbon Health, Galileo, and Summer Health.
Under the One Medical brand, customers can choose between a telehealth service for common conditions or a membership that provides on-demand virtual care and next-day in-person appointments at One Medical’s primary care offices nationwide. Membership costs are $9 per month or $99 per year for Prime members, and $199 per year for non-Prime customers.
The pay-per-visit service is designed for customers who may not have access to a physical Amazon One Medical office or have an existing primary care provider, but require immediate assistance. Insurance is not needed, and payments can be made with FSA/HSA funds.
Amazon has significantly increased its investments in healthcare, including the acquisition of One Medical for nearly $4 billion. While Amazon Clinic was launched in 2022, Amazon Care, the company’s employee-focused virtual primary care service, was shut down that same year.
On the other hand, other large companies like Walmart have scaled back their presence in the healthcare space, with the closure of its health center and virtual care service in April.
