Frank West makes a comeback after nearly eight years as Capcom announces a remaster of the original Dead Rising game. The teaser trailer reveals that Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will offer an updated release with a fresh look.
Details are scarce for now, but the teaser hints at a rejuvenated appearance for West, the iconic protagonist of the series. The teaser also features a new voice actor for West, replacing the original TJ Rotolo. An official post on the Dead Rising X account promises more information coming soon.
The trailer briefly revisits the game’s history, from its initial launch in 2006 to the HD remaster in 2016. It emphasizes the originality of the game’s premise, which allowed players to improvise weapons from objects in the mall setting. This freedom of gameplay set Dead Rising apart as a unique zombie action-adventure title.
In addition to its innovative weapon improvisation, the game introduced a degradable mechanic where weapons would break or run out of ammo, influencing other titles in the genre. Despite a compelling 72-hour survival story in a zombie-filled mall, players could tackle the game in various ways, showcasing remarkable freedom for its time.
The series’ latest title, Dead Rising 4, was released in 2016, alongside two live-action movies and the remaster. Plans for a fifth installment were scrapped due to the closure of Capcom Vancouver.
