Notion, a popular productivity tool, has expanded its publishing capabilities with the launch of Notion Sites. This new feature enhances existing publishing tools to provide a more polished publishing experience for users.
Many users already use Notion for content-centric work, such as organizing publishing calendars or working on documents. Some have even transformed their pages into websites, with startups founded on this idea. Given the demand for this functionality, Notion has introduced Notion Sites to enable users to publish their work directly.
Notion product lead Matt Piccolella explained that with Notion Sites, users can customize favicons, build navigation bars, utilize breadcrumb navigation, and enhance their sites with basic SEO features like title and description tags, as well as Google Analytics integration. Users can also control how their sites appear on social media and benefit from a search feature within the site.
The goal of Notion Sites is to make it easy for users to publish their Notion pages publicly, retaining all existing Notion features on the public sites.
While Notion Sites currently offers limited customization options, such as dark and light modes, the team plans to introduce more visual theming choices in the future to provide users with a simple way to create beautiful websites.
Notion aims to maintain its minimalist aesthetic to ensure that sites created on the platform look visually appealing without the need for complex styling. Piccolella highlighted the effortless beauty of the Notion look and feel.
Notion is exploring the integration of AI functionality to assist users in building Notion Sites and provide AI features in the future. Details on this initiative are forthcoming.
