In what has been one of the worst-kept secrets of the year, the Beats Pill has made a comeback. Just a few years after Apple and Beats discontinued the stylish Bluetooth speaker, a new version has been released.
Now available for preorder in black, red, or gold, the $150 speaker (which also functions as a speakerphone) completes the 2024 release cycle for Beats, following the Solo Buds, Solo 4 headphones, and Beats Studio Pro.
The new Pill features a redesigned racetrack woofer with stronger neodymium magnets, providing 28% more motor force and displacing 90% more air volume. It is also 10% lighter than its predecessor and comes with a removable lanyard, along with soft-touch silicone covering for an IP67 water resistance rating.
The Pill shares its technology with the latest headphones, offering compatibility with both Android and iOS devices and featuring “find my” capabilities if the speaker is lost.
One exciting feature of the new Pill is the ability to connect two speakers as a stereo pair, making them ideal for portable party speakers. There is also an Amplify Mode for bigger sound in mono. Battery life is rated at 24 hours of continuous playback, with a 10-minute USB-C charge providing an additional two hours of playback.
