Snapchat is introducing a new feature that allows users to set in-app reminders with the help of its My AI chatbot. The company announced this on Wednesday. In addition, the social network is rolling out editable chats, AI-powered custom Bitmoji looks, map reactions, emoji reactions, and more.
With the new AI reminders feature, Snapchat aims to encourage users to utilize its app for setting countdowns or reminders instead of their device’s default clock app. Users can simply ask the app’s My AI chatbot to set a reminder for a specific task or event directly within the chat window or while chatting with a friend.
This feature allows users to set reminders for tasks or events like finishing an assignment or counting down to an upcoming date night. It positions Snapchat as a platform for productivity, potentially increasing overall app usage.
Regarding editable chats, users will soon have the ability to edit their messages within five minutes of sending them. Initially available to Snapchat+ subscribers, this feature will eventually roll out to all users in the future.
Furthermore, users will soon be able to design custom digital garments for their Bitmoji using generative AI.
For example, users can create personalized patterns for clothing by providing prompts like “vibrant graffiti” or “skull flower”. The AI will generate a pattern that users can further customize and apply to their Bitmoji or save for later use.
In another update, users who have shared their location with friends can now react quickly to each other’s map locations. For instance, users can send a wave if they pass their friend during their morning commute, or send a heart when they see their friend has safely arrived home.
Snapchat is also introducing emoji reactions in chats. Users can now react with emojis to messages, expanding quick response options beyond Bitmoji reactions.
These new features arrive shortly after Snap reported an increase to 422 million daily active users in Q1 2024, a 10% year-over-year growth, as well as a triple-digit growth in Snapchat+ subscribers, surpassing 9 million subscribers.
