Strands is an exciting new daily puzzle brought to you by the New York Times. A more challenging version of the traditional word search, this puzzle will test your observation skills.
Similar to popular games like Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, Strands can present a challenge on certain days. If you find yourself stuck and in need of assistance, feel free to refer to the solved puzzle below.
How to play Strands
To begin a Strands puzzle, your objective is to locate the “theme words” hidden within the grid of letters. You can manipulate the letters by dragging or tapping to form words; double-tap the final letter to confirm your selection. Correct words will be highlighted in blue and no longer selectable.
Even if you discover a word that is not a theme word, it still provides assistance. For every three non-theme words that are at least four letters long, you will receive a hint — revealing the letters of one of the theme words for you to unscramble.
Every letter in the grid is utilized to spell out the theme words with no overlap. Each letter is used once and only once.
Each puzzle features a “spangram,” a unique theme word (or words) that describes the puzzle’s theme and spans two opposite sides of the board. When you locate the spangram, it will be highlighted in yellow.
The aim is to complete the puzzle swiftly while minimizing the use of hints.
