China’s Tencent Holdings announced that Dungeon and Fighter: Origin mobile game will be released on May 21st, 2024.
After over seven years of development, the highly anticipated title is a mobile adaptation of the original Dungeon and Fighter PC game that was first launched in 2005.
Developed by Korea’s Nexon, the mobile version was initially released in South Korea in 2022. However, its launch in China was delayed due to government regulations on the gaming industry from 2018 to 2022.
Successful Closed Test
Tencent recently conducted a closed test involving 300,000 players, which showed promising results. HSBC reported strong performance metrics for the game, including daily active users, retention rate, and user spending habits.
In February, investment bank Jefferies predicted that the game could achieve a top five revenue ranking in China, with potential annual revenues ranging from $600 million to $1.1 billion over time, according to Reuters. They also anticipate a cautious approach to engagement and monetization during the initial launch phase.
In Dungeon and Fighter, players choose from various character classes, each with unique abilities in the mythical world of Arad. The game offers a mix of side-scrolling beat ’em up action and RPG elements.
Despite undergoing different name changes such as Arad Senki in Japan and Dungeon Fighter Online in English-speaking regions, the core gameplay of the game remains unchanged.
