Two experienced security experts are launching a startup, DoubleYou, to assist other cybersecurity product makers in enhancing protection for Apple devices.
The startup, spearheaded by co-founder Patrick Wardle, a former NSA employee and renowned macOS security researcher, has partnered with Mikhail Sosonkin, a seasoned offensive security researcher who previously worked at Apple. Wardle praises Sosonkin’s engineering skills, calling him the perfect partner to bring their ideas to life.
DoubleYou’s mission is to address the lack of comprehensive security products for macOS and iPhones compared to Windows. With the increasing popularity of Macs among businesses worldwide, the threat landscape for Apple devices is expanding. Wardle and Sosonkin aim to leverage offensive cybersecurity tactics for defense, offering modular defensive tools for integration into existing security products.
The core offerings of DoubleYou’s product will focus on detecting and blocking untrusted code, monitoring anomalous DNS traffic, identifying malware behaviors, and detecting unauthorized access to device sensors. Customers can tailor their security solutions by selecting specific components, following an off-the-shelf catalog approach.
Wardle and Sosonkin plan to maintain independence and refrain from seeking external investment to stay focused on technological development. Their ultimate goal is to combat malware and generate income through their innovative cybersecurity solutions.
