El Paso, Elsewhere, a beloved indie game of 2023 by Digital Trends, is now set to be adapted into a film.
Variety reports that LaKeith Stanfield, known for his roles in films like Judas and the Black Messiah, Knives Out, and Haunted Mansion, as well as the TV show Atlanta, will star in and produce the film. The adaptation is being developed by Di Bonaventure Pictures, the production company behind franchises like Transformers, G.I. Joe, and The Meg. While details are scarce at the moment, it is expected to closely follow the intense narrative of the original game.
If you’re not familiar with El Paso, Elsewhere, it is a horror action game reminiscent of Max Payne that follows James Savage as he navigates the underworld beneath an El Paso motel to thwart his ex-girlfriend, a vampire named Draculae, from causing destruction. The game delves into James’ personal struggles, including his toxic relationship with Draculae and his reliance on painkillers during his mission to stop her.
It’s likely that Stanfield will portray James, originally depicted by Xalavier Nelson Jr. in the game. Through El Paso, Elsewhere and the recent release of Life Eater, developer Strange Scaffold has cemented itself as a prominent horror storyteller in the gaming industry. Hollywood seems to have taken notice following successful game adaptations like Fallout.
