Protecting your Windows 11 PC with a password is essential for keeping your files and important information secure from unauthorized users. However, there are situations where you may want to remove the login password in Windows.
One scenario is when you are sharing a PC with someone and do not have any private data on your system. Although not recommended, removing the password can result in faster logins to your PC.
If you believe that you no longer require that extra layer of security, here is how you can remove your login password on Windows 11.
Some Key Points to Consider
Before proceeding, it is important to note that if you have signed into your Windows 11 PC with a Microsoft account, removing the login password or PIN is not straightforward due to security reasons. You can only remove login passwords on locally created accounts or “offline accounts,” as Microsoft refers to them.
We recommend considering a PC with Windows Hello built-in or setting it up after purchase if possible. Windows Hello uses an infrared webcam or fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication, enhancing security and eliminating the need for a password.
Removing the Login Password on Windows 11
If you have set up your Windows 11 PC with a local (offline) account, you can follow these steps to remove the login password:
Step 1: Click on the Start Menu icon and select the Settings gear icon.
Step 2: In the Settings app, go to Accounts in the sidebar and choose Sign-in options.
Step 3: Under Ways to sign in, select Password.
Step 4: Click on the Change button under the Password category.
Step 5: Enter your current password and click Next.
Step 6: Leave the fields blank and click Finish.
Step 7: Close the Settings app, and your login password will be removed.
With your password removed, you will no longer need to enter it on the Windows 11 login screen. You will be automatically logged in upon PC startup, or you can simply click on your profile icon to sign in if sharing the PC.
However, it is essential to remember that not using a password in Windows 11 is not secure. Others could potentially access your files, especially if your account has administrator privileges. It is advisable to use a strong password or consider using Windows Hello for enhanced security.
