We were thrilled to learn during Nintendo’s April 2024 Indie World Showcase that a sequel to SteamWorld Heist is on the way.
Originally released on the 3DS in 2015, SteamWorld Heist was a popular 2D turn-based strategy game set in Thunderful’s expansive SteamWorld universe. The upcoming SteamWorld Heist 2, set for release on August 8, takes players to a pirate-themed environment where they must unravel a crisis affecting the metallic inhabitants caused by corroding water. Along the way, players will recruit new party members with unique abilities and engage in 2D turn-based shootouts. The game now features overworld travel and combat in a submarine.
Another exciting announcement from the showcase was the reveal of Cat Quest 3, also launching on August 8 alongside SteamWorld Heist 2. Several other games were also given release dates, including Little Kitty, Big City on May 9, Antonblast on November 12, and Lorelei and the Laser Eyes from Annapurna Interactive on May 16. Additionally, ports of Apple Arcade games like TMNT: Splintered Fate and Stitch were announced, highlighting the appeal of the Nintendo Switch for developers.
Atari unveiled a reimagined version of Yars’ Revenge called Yars Rising, and some of the showcased games are available today, including Switch ports of Sticky Business and Stitch, as well as demos for Antonblast and Europa.
