Strands is an engaging new daily puzzle from the renowned New York Times. Offering a more challenging twist on the traditional word search, this puzzle will test your observation skills.
Similar to popular games like Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, solving Strands can sometimes prove to be quite tricky. If you find yourself stuck and in need of some assistance, don’t hesitate to check out the solved puzzle below.
How to play Strands
To begin a Strands puzzle, your objective is to discover the “theme words” hidden within the grid of letters. By manipulating letters through dragging or tapping, form words and then double-tap the final letter to confirm. Correctly identified words will be highlighted in blue and no longer selectable.
Even if you come across a word that isn’t a theme word, it still provides assistance. For every three non-theme words that are at least four letters long that you find, you’ll receive a hint — revealing the letters of one of the theme words which you’ll need to unscramble.
Each letter on the grid contributes towards spelling out the theme words without any overlap, ensuring that every letter is used exactly once.
Every puzzle includes a “spangram,” a special theme word (or words) that describes the puzzle’s theme and connects two opposite sides of the board. Upon discovering the spangram, it will be highlighted in yellow.
The objective is to complete the puzzle swiftly while minimizing the use of hints.
