Video game publisher and developer Kwalee has made a significant investment of €1.5 million into French mobile game studio 8SEC. This move will result in Kwalee’s CFO Matthew Farrow and VP of mobile publishing John Wright joining the 8SEC board.
Despite maintaining independent operations in Paris and Lyon, the French company will now benefit from Kwalee’s extensive global team and specialized expertise in user acquisition, monetization, game design, and data science. Kwalee has a dedicated publishing team committed to transforming game concepts into successful and profitable ventures.
8SEC, known for its popular titles like Trivia.io, Hero Squad, and Idle Army, has released over 90 mobile games, accumulating more than 50 million game downloads. Their approach involves adopting the hybrid-casual mobile game style, offering easy-to-play titles designed for extended play to generate revenue through ads and in-app purchases.
Collaborative milestone
Louis Giraud, CEO of 8SEC, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing its significance in pushing the hybrid-casual mobile market into the next generation. He stated, “We’re very excited for the future and are impatient to show the world the incredible project we’re working on together!”
This investment in 8SEC marks Kwalee’s second strategic investment in France, following their acquisition of casual narrative game platform Tictales in 2022. Additionally, it aligns with their recent Development and Publishing Agreement with the KSA’s Fahy Studios, further emphasizing their commitment to growing the gaming scene globally.
David Darling CBE, CEO of Kwalee, remarked, “We’re delighted to invest in talented game studios like 8SEC, expand our reach in the market and collaborate to help them reach even greater success.” He also noted that 8SEC’s values align seamlessly with Kwalee’s commitment to creating enjoyable games for players worldwide and promised support to scale games on a global level.
