This past June was a bustling month for Xbox, especially with the exciting new titles unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase earlier on. While this month’s Xbox Game Pass additions may not have been as prominent, there are still several noteworthy games that joined Microsoft’s gaming subscription service. Among them, three titles have caught my attention.
One standout is a captivating retro RPG in the HD-2D style reminiscent of the Dragon Quest III remake by Square Enix. Additionally, there’s an indie platformer with a focus on digging, which is a gem within the SteamWorld franchise. Lastly, sports enthusiasts can now enjoy EA Sports’ latest soccer game on Xbox Game Pass right in the midst of UEFA Euro 2024.
Octopath Traveler 2
Square Enix is known for its AAA RPGs, but I’ve found their smaller-scale projects to be equally captivating. The HD-2D art style in games such as 2018’s Octopath Traveler and its sequel Octopath Traveler 2 offers a unique visual experience. The standout feature of the sequel lies in its expanded storytelling, enhanced character interactions, and faster turn-based battles. RPG enthusiasts on Xbox should definitely give this one a try!
Octopath Traveler 2 is now available on Xbox Game Pass for PC, console, and cloud, as well as on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.
SteamWorld Dig 2
Indie gaming fans will appreciate SteamWorld Dig 2 on Xbox Game Pass, a unique Metroidvania game where players explore an underground mine in search of a robot companion. The game offers a satisfying progression system as players gather resources and upgrade their abilities. If you enjoy this sequel, you can also explore its predecessor and the city-builder spinoff within the SteamWorld universe.
SteamWorld Dig 2 is available on Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox One, as well as on Mac, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PlayStation Vita.
EA Sports FC 24
Despite losing the FIFA naming rights, EA Sports continues to excel in creating top-notch soccer simulation games like EA Sports FC 24. With enhanced animations and a unique “PlayStyles” system, the game offers a realistic soccer experience. Subscribers of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can access EA Sports FC 24 through EA Play, making it a perfect time to explore the game during the UEFA Euro 2024 championship.
EA Sports FC 24 is available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for console, PC, and cloud, as well as on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.
