For the 2025 model year, Hyundai has announced a comprehensive update for the electric Ioniq 5. The crossover will receive a range of enhancements including a new rugged trim level called XRT, increased driving range, upgraded standard and optional features, and access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.
The highlight of the update is the introduction of the XRT trim level, which comes exclusively with dual-motor all-wheel-drive and a larger battery pack. It features off-road-inspired design elements such as unique 18-inch wheels, black exterior accents, a redesigned front end, and special H-Tex upholstery. Hyundai has also raised the suspension to improve the vehicle’s off-road capabilities, making it more adventurous than the standard Ioniq 5.
In addition to the XRT, Hyundai has made visual updates to other Ioniq 5 variants, including redesigned bumpers, a new rear spoiler, and aerodynamic wheel designs. Inside, the center console has been revamped, buttons for heated front seats have been added, and heated rear seats are now standard on select trims.
Hyundai has also upgraded the infotainment system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is capable of receiving over-the-air software updates, allowing the brand to introduce new features remotely.
The lineup still consists of rear- and all-wheel-drive models with Standard and Extended Range battery options. The Standard battery capacity has been increased to 63 kilowatt hours, while the Long Range pack now offers 84 kilowatt hours. Driving range varies between 240 to 310 miles depending on the trim and drivetrain configuration.
One major update is the compatibility of the 2025 Ioniq 5 with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), enabling access to Tesla’s Supercharger network without an adapter. This feature will be extended to other Hyundai EVs in late 2024.
Production of the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 will take place in Georgia, with vehicles expected to reach dealerships nationwide in the fall of 2024. The U.S. manufacturing location will make the model eligible for a $3,750 tax credit, while leased models will qualify for the full $7,500 tax credit.
