After the conclusion of the Worlds 2024 Swiss stage, let’s delve into the viewership statistics as we head into the Knockout stage.
Record-breaking Viewership for Worlds 2024 Swiss Stage
Following an electrifying play-in stage, the group stage of the 2024 World Championship has shattered several viewership records, indicating a flourishing trend for LoL Esports. According to Esports Charts, the average viewership for Worlds has surged by 36% compared to the previous year. Notably, one series during the Swiss stage crossed the 3 million viewers mark, achieved during the thrilling clash between T1 and G2 Esports in a riveting East vs West showdown.
The average viewership surpassed 1.5 million, showcasing growth across all metrics, including unique broadcast channels and online viewership in various languages.
Across-the-Board Achievements
The Swiss stage has highlighted several significant trends. YouTube outpaced Twitch in peak viewership, while Vietnamese viewership surpassed Korean and English broadcasts for the first time ever, underscoring the dedicated following of Vietnamese fans. The total peak viewership reached 803,300, just slightly below the peak observed during Worlds 2023.
This surge in viewership was likely fueled by GAM Esports’ presence in the top 16. It’s anticipated that Vietnamese enthusiasts will continue to tune in as the competition intensifies in the Knockout stage.
In addition to GAM, six other teams set records for match viewership: PaiN Gaming, PSG Talon, Team Liquid, FlyQuest, Hanwha Life Esports, and Top Esports. This can be attributed to the engaging cross-regional matchups facilitated by the new Swiss stage format introduced last year.
Popularity of Co-streamers
With the activation of co-streamers for international matches, fans have embraced them for a more immersive viewing experience and enhanced engagement. English-speaking streamer Marc “Caedrel” Lamont once again set a new personal best by attracting over 300,000 viewers during the decisive G2 vs BLG series.
Niklot “Tolkin” Stüber achieved a new peak of 72,800 concurrent viewers, while Brazilian streamer Baiano excelled on YouTube, surpassing the official CBLOL channel.
With powerhouse teams like T1, Gen.G, and BLG in contention, we anticipate further viewership records to be broken in the upcoming weeks. The Knockout Stage commences today in Paris, culminating in the finals on November 2 at the O2 Arena in London.
